Traditional Chinese
Medicine, Acupuncture Points & Ch'i
More than 5,000 years ago
traditional Chinese medicine mapped out the pathways of energy flow through the organs.
Points on these pathways are known as the acupuncture points. The network
or pathways themselves are known as the meridian system. The
subtle energy flowing through these pathways are known by the Chinese as Qi
(Ch'i). Chinese philosophers believe that Qi (Ch'i) is balanced and
harmonized by Yin (the energy of the earth) and Yang (the energy of heaven).

I come from a long line of
engineer, telecommunications, and networking types so I like to think of the
meridian system as electrical circuits that the subtle energy runs through. It is
just a little easier for me to understand and explain - I did mention I am a
science geek. There are 12 true meridian circuits that governs the organs.
However, you should not necessarily view the organs separate from the circuit.
For two hours a day each
meridian gets the chance to dominate or govern the body according to Chinese Theory.
This is sometimes referred to as the energy body clock. Using this body
clock can help explain why certain times of the day certain symptoms appear or
get worse. Or perhaps it can explain why you have wild swings in mood or
energy level.
Following is some basic
information about each meridian. Things like the times each meridian
dominates, the organ or organs this meridian is connected to, and the primary
and secondary emotions associated with them:
- Lung (dominates
3 AM - 5 AM) - Grief, sadness
- Large Intestine
(dominates 5 AM - 7 AM) - Stuck, Defensiveness
- Stomach
(dominates 7 AM - 9 AM) - Disgust, Despair
- Spleen
(dominates 9 AM - 11 AM) - Associated with the Pancreas - Low
Self Esteem
- Heart (dominates
11 AM - 1 PM) - Frightfully overjoyed, Lack of Joy, Frightfully
sad
- Small Intestine
(dominates 1 PM - 3 PM) - Vulnerable, Feelings of Abandonment
- Bladder
(dominates 3 PM - 5 PM) - Associated with Skin - Irritated,
Timidity
- Kidney
(dominates 5 PM - 7 PM) - Fear, Terror
- Circulation / Sex
(dominates 7 PM - 9 PM) - Associated with the Brain, including
the pituitary and hypothalamus, and Reproductive Organs -
Unresponsive, Inability to express emotions, Depleted.
- Triple Warmer
(dominates 9 PM - 11 PM) - Associated with the thyroid and adrenals it
is what controls your metabolism, energy transfer and temperature regulation -
Confusion, Paranoia
- Gallbladder
(dominates 11 PM - 1 AM) - Resentment
- Liver (dominates
1 AM - 3 AM) - Anger, Frustration, Rage
There are two types of
meridian (circuit) blockages. The first is where it is completely blocked.
In other words, there is absolutely no Ch'i running through the circuit to the
organs. The second type is known as an adaptation. Think of an
adaptation as a blockage in a point (or several points) along the circuit but
the energy flow detours and runs around those blocked points. You still
have some connectivity but it is usually greatly diminished.
If you were to think of
your organs as some kind of appliance, the energy running that appliance would
be the Ch'i. The electrical wiring bringing the energy to that appliance
would be the meridian system. If you had a major appliance that just all
of the sudden quit working, what would be one of the first things a repair man
would do when he arrived? He would make sure that there were sufficient
power coming to that appliance. While it's true that the malfunction can
be in the appliance (organ) it could occur in energy circuit just as easily.
What I am seeing in my
clients is many times whatever meridian is totally blocked is where pathogenic
organisms are overgrown and massive amounts of toxins are accumulated.
This may be because with energy comes air, light and heat. Many pathogenic
organisms love the cool dampness and are anaerobic (can't survive in air). After
time these blocked areas may just seem to the body as a storage area for your
toxins and filth. Again, creating a perfect environment for invasive
organisms to thrive.
Usually when there is a
problem with a meridian, you will have symptoms somewhere along that circuit.
However, what I am seeing with people who have been chronically ill for a very
long time, when they only have 1 or 2 fully functioning meridians (or meridians
with sufficient Ch'i running through them) their symptoms will come from those
"working" meridians. Again, indicating that eventually there is not even
enough power to signal a problem along that circuit. Going back to the
fire alarm analogy... It has to sound an alarm in another room. One
that has power and is working.
Most other methods of
energy work (NAET, BioSet, and BRT) I have seen do not necessarily address (at
least not directly) a blockage in the meridian system itself. Applied
Kinesiology uses supplements, homeopathics, herbal remedies, sometimes a
practitioner may use acupuncture which may rebalance, to try and remove
blockages. Sometimes this can work but depending on what type of methods
used, it can be a long drawn out and expensive process.
The very first step in the
BioEnergetic Identification Reset TechniqueTM
(BIRT)
correction protocol is balancing or strengthening the meridian system. This
alone can be a very powerful restoration of the body's healing capability.
BioEnergetic Identification Reset TechniqueTM
(BIRT) will
address any blockage in the meridian system to reconnect the circuit. In
some rare cases, a meridian system will not remain in balance. Usually
there is an anatomical reason which may require chiropractic adjustment.
While it's good to know
some of the how and why energy healing (acupuncture and acupressure stimulation)
works, I have developed my protocol to be something you can learn to do for
yourself and your family. A little off topic... In ancient Rome,
every adult male was required to be a lawyer so that he could handle his and his
immediate family's affairs. I feel like in our modern toxic and
immunological deficient times, we would be prudent to adopt the same attitudes
toward healing. It is my belief that one of the reasons why Americans have
become so chronically ill is we leave our health and wellbeing in the hands of
someone else.
